Cincinnati Bengals star defensive tackle Geno Atkins is nothing short of amazing, and he’s likely still developing at age 25 despite being a two-time Pro Bowler and an -pro last season. On September 2, Atkins signed a brand new six-year contract worth $54.75 million, which makes him roughly the ninth highest paid player at his position.
Atkins had 12.5 sacks in 2012, and he already has 3.5 in three games this year with that number likely will at least flirt with double digits again this season.
Atkins could be licking his chops as if Buffalo Bills left guard Colin Brown gets the starting nod, as he has been one of, if not the worst linemen in the entire league. With how bad Brown has played, it is likely that starting center Eric Wood will have to help out blocking and neutralize Atkins to the best of his abilities, just like he did with Baltimore Ravens‘ monster nose tackle Haloti Ngata.
Another player that can help out the protection for quarterback Thad Lewis, who is only making his second career start in the league. Running backs C.J. Spiller and Fred Jackson will help squash the pass rushers for the Bengals.
It should be an interesting matchup to say the least between two shaky offenses, where at least one will have to show up in a big way in order to win this game.
