Dallas Cowboys’ Brandon Carr Shines Against Washington Redskins
Free-agent acquisition Brandon Carr had his best game as a member of the Dallas Cowboys this past Sunday.
Carr, who signed a five-year $51.1 million deal with the Cowboys this past offseason, lined up against the Washington Redskins best wide receiver Pierre Garcon the majority of the night. Garcon finished the game with only six receptions for 69 yards on the night. Garcon was targeted 15 times, the most out of the Redskins receivers
The Cowboys defense held the Redskins to just 16 points this Sunday after giving up 51 points in last week’s shootout. While nobody is comparing the Redskin offense to that of the Denver Broncos, the defense put in a solid effort to slow down Robert Griffin the III. Holding the Redskins to only one touchdown on the night is very impressive for a team that had over 400+ yards of offense put on them just a week before. Carr was able to shut down Garcon and help lead the Cowboys’ to victory
Defensive Coordinator Monte Kiffin’s “Tampa 2” defense relies a lot on a player’s natural ability and puts a premium of tackling in open spaces. Carr has all of the tools that it takes to be a great corner in the NFL and he showed it Sunday night. Playing opposite second-year player Morris Claiborne, the Cowboys have two of the better corners in the league. Unfortunately, they have not looked the part for a good part of the season.
The Cowboys have been particularly suspect in secondary this season a problem that they had last season as well. Signing Carr was supposed to alleviate these woes this season. But so far, the former Kansas City Chief, along with the rest of the secondary, has been a weak point for the Cowboys this season.
The Cowboys have given up three 400+ yard passers this season. Eli Manning, Philip Rivers and Peyton Manning have all had huge days against the Cowboys lackluster defense this season. However, the Redskins Griffin had a rough time and finished the game 13 for 39 with 246 yards and an interception. Griffin was sacked twice on the night and also fumbled the ball midway through the 4th quarter. RGIII, who is slowly rounding back into form from his ACL injury a year ago never got into sync with Garcon who was blanketed by Carr all-night long.
