Houston Texans Rumors: Top 5 Trade Options for Matt Schaub
Trade Scenarios for Matt Schaub
Matt Schaub's days as a member of the Houston Texans are numbered, regardless of whether anyone within the organization wants to admit it. The team and its fan base have given up on Schaub, so if the Texans want to continue to sell tickets, they'll need to make a permanent change at quarterback before the 2014 NFL season. So with that in mind, it's safe to assume Schaub will be playing for a different team by that point.
Fortunately for the now-hated Schaub, several NFL teams still need quarterback help, although that will likely never change. But considering he's still owed a truckload of money, it's more likely that he'll be traded rather than released if Houston can get a sucker team to bite. But when you take into consideration just how bad some NFL teams are in need of a signal caller and the fact Schaub has a lot of success on his resume, finding a suitor may not be as hard as it sounds.
Here are the top five landing spots for Schaub.
5. Buffalo Bills
With EJ Manuel and virtually every other Bills quarterback hurt, Buffalo could do a lot worse than bringing in Schaub for a spin. With all their weapons on offense, the Bills might just catch lightning in a bottle with the outcast Texans quarterback.
4. Cleveland Browns
With Brian Hoyer done for the year and Cleveland all but done with Brandon Weeden, now is a perfect time for the Browns to bring in Schaub (with a restructured contract) and see if he can turn things around and earn a long-term spot on the roster.
3. Oakland Raiders
It's only a matter of time before the Raiders figure out that Terrelle Pryor is not their long-term answer at quarterback. If they come to that realization sooner rather than later, Schaub could be in silver and black slinging to guys like Denarius Moore by the end of October.
2. Minnesota Vikings
Sure, the Vikings just signed Josh Freeman, but who knows whether he'll be able to play effectively in Minnesota? He might be a dud and the Vikings have way too many weapons to just keep floating along without a legit quarterback.
1. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars are desperate for anybody to come in and take over the reins and track record-wise, Schaub is definitely the best available option. It's unlikely the Texans would trade their highly-paid underachiever to a divisional foe, but it's certainly possible considering Jacksonville's level of desperation.
