15 Biggest Winners and Losers From Week 6 in the NFL
The Biggest Winners and Losers From NFL Week 6
With another weekend of exciting NFL action in the books, it's time to assess who the big winners and losers from week six are. There were actually a lot of winners this week. Normally, the losers list greatly outweighs the winners list, but not in week six.
In addition to there being many winners, there were also several teams that couldn't be considered winners or losers. They basically pushed when it came to getting a designation for week six. For some teams, losing on the field, didn't necessarily earn them the tag of loser. If a team is projected to lose and they perform better than expected, it's hard to call them losers.
On the opposite side of things, there was actually one team in week six that won on the field, but lost in a big way.
As much as I wanted to put the Jaguars on the list of winners this week, I just couldn't do it. Moral victories are overrated in the the NFL, but if there is such thing, Jacksonville got one this weekend. No one thought they'd play the Broncos as well as they did. I tip my cap to Gus Bradley and company, but you can't get a win without actually winning something.
So with the many storylines and all the fallout from NFL week six in mind, let's take a look at the biggest winner and losers:
Winner - Carolina Panthers
The Panthers had a must-win game on the road in Minnesota and came through in a big way. Cam Newton and company absolutely waxed the Vikings and as a result, the temperature on Ron Rivera's coaching seat dropped a bit.
Loser - Indianapolis Colts
Perhaps the Colts were looking ahead to their showdown with Denver in week seven, maybe it was the trip to the west coast? But no matter the cause, the Colts left San Diego as big losers after MNF.
Winner - Kansas City Chiefs
If you didn't already have the Chiefs as a legitimate threat in this year's AFC, you have to consider them as such now. KC is 6-0 after a convincing beatdown of the Raiders on Sunday and the sky appears to be the limit.
Loser - Green Bay Packers
The Packers were literal winners in week 6, but they suffered a huge loss with Randall Cobb going down. James Jones is also banged up, so this team will not be fully loaded moving forward.
Loser - New York Giants
Nobody had the G-Men going 0-6 to start 2013, but that's exactly where they sit after another disappointing loss on TNF. They might be the best winless team ever, but they still sit at the bottom of the NFC heading into week 7.
Loser - New York Jets
It was way too early for people to be jumping on the Jets' bandwagon after their big win on MNF last week, but some fans were desperate. After putting up a measly six points in week 6, it's back to the drawing board for Rex Ryan and company.
Winner - DeSean Jackson
Jackson called out Darrelle Revis prior to this week six matchup and he backed up every word. Jackson went off on Revis and the Bucs for two touchdowns as the Eagles cruised to victory in Tampa.
Loser - Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings' season appears to be lost after they were shellacked at home by the Panthers. The played poorly in every facet of the game and it looks like another QB change is coming in the near future.
Winner - Pittsburgh Steelers
You have to give the Steelers credit. Through four games they looked awful. But in week six they finally got things going and won their first game of the year. They're not dead yet in this year's AFC North.
Winner - San Diego Chargers
It's been a bumpy up-and-down season for the Chargers, but after everything that's gone down, they find themselves at 3-3 after a good win over the Colts on MNF. Week seven brings a matchup with the Jaguars and a very good chance to get above .500.
Loser - Greg Schiano
After yet another loss in this train wreck of a season for Tampa Bay, can we all agree that Schiano is not cut out for the NFL?
Winner - St. Louis Rams
Despite looking absolutely terrible at times in 2013, the Rams are somehow 3-3 after week six. They went into Houston on Sunday and punched the Texans square in the mouth to keep themselves very much in the NFC playoff picture.
Loser - Washington Redskins
Get your forks out, the Redskins are done. RG3 is still not himself and their secondary is terrible. This team will not turn things around like last year. It's over for Mike Shanahan's team.
Winner - New England Patriots
Just when fans were ready to hit the panic button in New England, Tom Brady connected with Kenbrell Thompkins on an amazing fourth down play to give the Patriots a huge win over the Saints. Classic Brady.
Loser - Houston Texans' Fans
The biggest losers from week six in the NFL are no doubt the Texans' fans who cheered Matt Schaub's injury. You can use whatever negative term you want to describe these 'fans' but I think we can all agree that those who partook in the cheering, suck.
