Philadelphia Eagles' Quarterback Toss Up vs. Dallas Cowboys

According to Chip Kelly, prior to the Week 6 win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Philadelphia Eagles starting quarterback job belonged to Michael Vick as long as he was healthy. Nick Foles made the situation a bit harder by leading the Eagles to the victory and shining all day in the process. Kelly hasn’t really made a declaration as to what will happen, but he has stuck by the fact that it remains uncertain what the physical status of both players is at this point.

Knowing that each is more than capable, the Eagles should feel comfortable putting either behind center in an attempt to take the solo lead of the NFC East.

Foles has shown an uncanny ability to lead as just a second year quarterback. His decision making is second to none and his ability to spread the ball around the field has been well displayed. He has occasionally shown the ability to take some yards with his legs, although it’s not his forte. Foles’ large frame and height allow him to sit in the pocket and pick apart a defense, using his offensive weapons from many different avenues. His completion percentage, as well as his ability to take care of the football, makes him a reliable option for any game.

Vick, on the other hand, poses a challenge to any defense in the league. His mobility, even at age 33, creates matchup problems all over the field, and pairing him with LeSean McCoy makes the Eagles an elusive mixture. Still, as a 12-year veteran, Vick can sling the ball with the best of them demonstrating accuracy and arm strength going down field. Although his stature doesn’t give him the vision of Foles, his ability to run the option based Kelly offense makes him a dangerous choice.

Regardless of who takes the place behind center on Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys‘ defense will have their hands full. It’s the chance that either could still play that makes it more difficult, because at this point, they need to prepare for both.
