Never mind that it is only Week 7 of the NFL season for the Miami Dolphins, their upcoming showdown with the Buffalo Bills at Sun Life Stadium has been elevated to a must win situation. Despite starting off the season with a surprising 3-0 record, the Dolphins have lost their last two games heading into their bye week. This weekend’s game against the Bills is huge if Miami intends on staying in the race for the AFC East as well as in the Wild Card. If the playoffs were to start today the Dolphins would be in but we all know it isn’t that easy.
While Miami currently sits at 3-2, and have beaten some good teams like the Cleveland Browns and the Indianapolis Colts, they were taken behind the woodshed by the New Orleans Saints and struggled to establish any sort of rhythm against the Baltimore Ravens. During the bye week, they watched the New England Patriots pull further ahead in the lead for the East after their thrilling last-second victory against the Saints.
It’s odd, most Dolphins fans were ecstatic to be undefeated heading into the Monday night game and have spent most of the time since then complaining about lack of a running game from Lamar Miller and waiting still for Mike Wallace‘s breakout game.
This week, the Dolphins look to take advantage of a Bills team who have managed to hang tough the last few weeks with Thad Lewis starting in place of the injured E.J. Manuel. This will not be a walk in the park for Miami who will need to find a way to get their big off-season acquisition into their offense and look to give their defense some rest; Cameron Wake‘s availability is still unknown but it’s questionable at best.
The road ahead is a tough one for Miami with a road trip to Gillette Stadium following this weekends game and a quick turn around hosting the Cincinnati Bengals on the following Thursday night; a team also in the hunt for the Wild Card. If Miami hopes to keep the pressure on the Patriots and keep some distance between themselves and the rest of the division, they cannot afford to lose this game at home with the bills.
