All signs point to the Tennessee Titans starting Jake Locker on Sunday. It is certainly something that must happen as long as he is healthy.

The reason the Titans must start Locker if he is ready is because he gives the Titans the best chance to win. His numbers may not be off the charts, but the one thing he has been this season is efficient. Locker has thrown six touchdown and no interceptions. On the other hand, backup quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick has tossed four interceptions in two starts.

Locker and Fitzpatrick both got the necessary reps in Friday’s practice in order to be ready for Sunday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers. That means Fitzpatrick will be ready to fill in if Locker is unable to suit up for any reason.

“We really want to get a feel for what (Locker) feels he can do well and what his limitations may or may not be,” Titans head coach Mike Munchak said, according to ESPN.com. “I thought on the field he handled himself really well.”

It will definitely be a long day for whoever starts under center considering the 49ers have a top-notch pass defense and have sacked opposing quarterbacks 14 times this season. With that being said, there is no question in my mind Locker will give Tennessee a better chance to win than Fitzpatrick will. Obviously, the coaching staff believes the same thing as they are doing everything in their power to make sure Locker is ready to go.
