Green Bay Packers’ Jarrett Boykin Rebounded As Expected
The Green Bay Packers got a very impressive win against the Cleveland Browns yesterday at rainy Lambeau Field. The win improved the Packers’ record to 4-2 and placed them in sole possession of firs place in the NFC North.
The offense exploded for 31 points and was extremely balanced throughout the game. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers was a true game manager for four quarters and relied on rookie Eddie Lacy (22 caries, 82 yards, one TD) to keep the Browns on their toes. However, Rodgers relied on someone through the air that many people may not know about: Jarrett Boykin.
Boykin was unknown to many fans and got a few upset in Week 6 against the Baltimore Ravens as he dropped a few big passes. However, he rebounded in a big way. I won’t pat my own back or toot my own horn too much, but I projected Boykin to step up and have a good game in the pick to click segment yesterday.
The second-year receiver from Virginia Tech finished with eight catches, 103 yards and a touchdown on Sunday. My projections for Boykin were five catches, 55 yards and a touchdown. I’m proud to say he proved me right and wrong at the same time.
Regardless of my pick, Boykin stepped up when the Packers needed him most. With wide receivers Randall Cobb and James Jones out due to injury and Jermichael Finley being carted off in the third quarter, Rodgers was running out of options. All that was left for him was Jordy Nelson, Boykin and a practice squad receiver Myles White. Needless to say, Boykin proved he could be reliable.
The Packers must get healthy and they expect to have Jones back soon, but with question marks about Finley’s return and Cobb being sidelined until Week 15, Boykin will have to continue to step up and make plays. He will surely get the attention of defenses from here on out, so expect Boykin to work hard on his craft and continue to get better.
