Kansas City Chiefs Keep Rolling, Raise Record to 7-0 vs. Houston Texans
Week 7 saw the Kansas City Chiefs keeping the Houston Texans at bay with a narrow 17-16 victory Sunday afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs, with an exacting offense coupled with their signature powerhouse defense, were too much for first-time starting quarterback Case Keenum, who was filling in for the Texans’ injured starting QB Matt Schaub — four sacks in the fourth quarter alone, Houston?
The Chiefs move on to a 7-0 record for the season, and with Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos‘ 39-33 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City remains the only undefeated team in the NFL and step into first place in the AFC West. That’s quite the comeback after a dismal 2-14 season in 2012, and despite all the internet hating and talk that they’ve had an “easy” season thus far, they are having fun and making it look good in the process, too.
The Chiefs will face off this coming Sunday against the 3-4 Cleveland Browns, once again on their home turf, and have every reason to remain confident. The Browns have performed unsteadily this season, at best, and after a 31-13 shellacking by the Green Bay Packers Sunday, they are now looking at the results of an 0-4 run with Brandon Weeden as starting quarterback.
Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith might have his hands full up against an ever-improving Cleveland defense, but as long as Jamaal Charles keeps playing like he did Sunday against the Texans, the Chiefs have a lot to look forward to.
It is becoming increasingly more difficult to write off the Chiefs’ winning streak, but honestly, has it all been a fluke thus far?
After the coming games over the next two weeks against the Browns and the Buffalo Bills, the Chiefs’ schedule will present them with more daunting opposition, including the Broncos, San Diego Chargers and Colts.
Can the Chiefs Nation maintain their momentum? Stay tuned starting on Sunday, when the push continues.
