On Monday night, the New York Giants finally got their first win of the season against the lowly Minnesota Vikings. How’d they get that win? There were a few contributing factors to the effort. But, one guy that didn’t do a whole lot to help the cause is none other than wide receiver Hakeem Nicks.
Yes, the guy that has been in trade rumors around the league for a few weeks did nothing to help his case of staying in New York Monday night.
Nicks was targeted a team-high 10 times but only brought two of them in for a total of 28 yards.
It was obvious early on that Nicks didn’t seem dialed in 100 percent. He had some pretty blatant drops that looked flat out bad and got his quarterback Eli Manning and head coach Tom Coughlin steamed. Manning was frustrated with Nicks throughout the night with his effort and overall performance.
With the Giants in need of some picks and younger guys, they would be very wise to deal Nicks to a team in need of a big wide receiver. Maybe a fresh start would help Nicks re-focus; getting out of the situation in New York might help lift his spirits, too. But, for New York, they would benefit greatly from a pick or two in next year’s draft.
It really could be a win-win for the Giants and Nicks in the long run, and with the way this season has gone they would be incredibly smart to pull the trigger on the right deal if it presented itself.
