The Cleveland Browns have decided to bench quarterback Brandon Weeden in favor of Jason Campbell. Truth be told, the move could not come quick enough as Weeden is clearly not the answer. It certainly has to make fans wonder what the heck ever happened to Colt McCoy.
”It’s a tough decision,” Browns head coach Rob Chudzinski said, according to FoxSports.com. ”I believe this is in the best interest of the team, and ultimately and gives us the best chance to win. I’m excited to see what Jason will do with this opportunity.”
Was it a tough decision? Weeden is a horrendous signal caller! Anyone who watched Sunday’s contest against the Green Bay Packers knows that. Even Packers’ fans were wondering what the heck is wrong with the Browns to think Weeden is capable of being a NFL quarterback. It certainly makes football fans sick to think that someone like Weeden is able to start but no one will give Tim Tebow a shot.
The 30-year-old constantly made bad reads, overthrew wide receivers and clearly was unable to inspire the offense. After bad throws against the Packers, several wide receivers could be seen shaking their head in disbelief that Weeden was even given the opportunity to play.
It is no wonder Cleveland decided to promote Campbell with the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs on tap for Week 8. Campbell clearly gives the team the best chance to win due to his valuable experience that includes 71 starts in the NFL.
”I think that looking at Jason and the things that he brings to the table, leadership, his experience, he’s been productive and he’s been successful in the league,” Chudzinski told FoxSports.com. ”I think when you look at his arm strength and you look at his mobility and some of those things, and tie it into as far as a game plan standpoint, it’s what we feel like we need for this game and gives us the best chance.”
It will be interesting to see if Campbell has what it takes to inspire the Browns to defeat the Chiefs.
