The Monday Night Football game was just ugly. Josh Freeman looked atrocious and I can’t decide if it was his fault or Leslie Frazier’s. On one hand, if you’re going to miss a receiver at least miss him around the hands or around the numbers. Don’t overthrow him by 16 yards. On the other hand, is two weeks really enough time to learn a playbook? I can’t remember the last time I read a book from start to finish in less than 6 months. The fault probably falls 50/50 here. At one point, the Minnesota Vikings ran what looked to be the same play three times before the third quarter.
The most mind blowing part is the Vikings rode Freeman to the end of the game. Regardless of whether or not they thought he knew the playbook or had the ability to make a come back, why would you not switch to Christian Ponder while the game was still in reach. The Vikings threw that game away.
What does that say about Ponder? Is he that terrible? Is he bad enough where you would let another quarterback finish the game even though he looks awful and may not even know the playbook? That just feels dirty. Like taking a girl out to make your ex-girlfriend jealous.
If the Vikings let Freeman finish out the loss for a high draft pick then more power to them but at least do yourself a favor and trade Adrian Peterson and start from scratch. Don’t keep a piece of the puzzle here and a piece of the puzzle there as you blow up the team.
Accident or not, it’s not fair to Ponder or Peterson who led the Vikings to a playoff game last year.
