Just when you thought that the Minnesota Vikings‘ quarterback situation couldn’t get any messier, news of Josh Freeman having a concussion has emerged. While some will say that the injury explains his poor play on MNF, I don’t think that’s the case. His performance was the result of rust and trying to learn a new scheme in two weeks. But regardless of how things got to this point, the reality is that Christian Ponder could be starting for the Vikings again this Sunday.

It seemed that the Ponder era was a thing of the past, but the third-year QB might get one last chance to prove himself. If Freeman is not physically able to go or if he’s not showing the coaching staff what they need to see, the Vikings would be dumb to not go back to Ponder. Even though the season seems lost for Minnesota at 1-5, they’re technically still alive. A win over the Green Bay Packers would absolutely huge.

Who knows where this QB saga will turn next. Let’s say Ponder does play, and plays well. Then what? How can the coaching staff justify going back to Freeman?

We’ll have to see how Freeman progresses, but on a short week, I don’t like his chances of playing Sunday night. It could be last call for Christian Ponder and many people will argue that he deserves one last chance. But no matter what happens against the Packers on SNF, it’s safe to assume that things can’t get any worse for Minnesota. At least that’s what fans are hoping.
