New England Patriots: Aqib Talib Returns To Fold
Talib missed last Sunday’s tilt against the New York Jets due to a hip injury. He pulled up lame in a Week 5 game against the New Orleans Saints, slamming his helmet to the ground in frustration after he suffered the injury. It was known then that Talib was out for the rest of that game. What was not known at that point was how long Talib was going to be out.
Well he missed one game due to it. At the very least, Talib was able to practice on the Friday before the game against the Jets. So that got him headed in the right direction. Now he’s practicing on Wednesday, which is always a good sign for a player’s status on Sunday.
Talib’s presence was sorely missed against the Jets. His absence pressed the likes of Marquice Cole and Logan Ryan into the fold (though the latter was pretty impressive). Neither one of them can shut down the top receiving threat for the opposing team like Talib can.
His presence also lessens the loads on other less capable defenders. He makes Kyle Arrington‘s job a lot easier, as the often-torched cornerback mostly plays the role of nickel cornerback when Talib is in the lineup. Talib can also allow Dont’a Hightower to cover someone less prominent on the opposing offense, which is crucial because Hightower really struggled in coverage last Sunday.
A top-three cornerback who makes himself and other players better is always welcome. In fact, Talib is needed if the Patriots are to make it anywhere this season.
