Carolina Panthers' Easy Schedule Has Ron Rivera Getting Too Much Credit

Ron Rivera

The Carolina Panthers have looked impressive in the last three weeks, but let’s understand just who Cam Newton and company have faced as of late. Carolina started the season 0-2 with two heartbreaking losses to the Seattle Seahawks and Buffalo Bills. Both of these games were lost by a combined six points, which has been a bad trend for the Panthers during the Ron Rivera era.

However, Carolina has rebounded since the first two weeks of the year as it looks primed to make noise in the NFC playoff picture. While many are impressed with Rivera and the Panthers’ 4-3 record; let’s keep in mind the easy schedule Carolina has played this season. The Panthers’ three wins have all come against teams that are .500 or below. Wins over the New York Giants, Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Rams aren’t exactly the kinds of victories you hang your hat on.

Rivera may be loved by his players, yet the only reason he’s still in town is because Carolina has been able to take care of the bottom-feeders in the NFL.  As soon as the Panthers start dropping games to teams like the New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots, then we’ll see just how many players are sticking up for Rivera. For now, the folks in Carolina are all aboard the Rivera bandwagon.
