NFL Cleveland Browns

Cleveland Browns Need To Cut Bait With Brandon Weeden For Good

Brandon Weeden

Jeff Hanisch- USA TODAY Sports

Cleveland BrownsBrandon Weeden has been abysmal to say the least ever since Brian Hoyer tore his ACL against the Buffalo Bills in Week 4. Weeden did some nice things against the Bills that day in relief of Hoyer, but since then his job security has not only been questioned but he has been benched for Jason Campbell.

No disrespect to Campbell, but when a starting quarterback is benched for him, it pretty much assumes that the original starter’s career in the league is just bleak at this point. Which pretty much means Weeden’s time with the Browns is all but over.

“It really is about production and ultimately being consistent in that area,” Browns’ head coach Rob Chudzinski noted Wednesday via ESPN.com.

The Browns have to have some kind of spark. Outside of the quarterback position at this point, this is a solid team. The Browns’ defense has proven to be one of the best in the NFL with cornerback Joe Haden leading the charge as he is an elite corner in this game. The Browns have a defense that can carry an offense a long way.

“It’s not about one person. I know everyone wanted to say it’s about Brandon. But it really wasn’t about one person,” Campbell noted Wednesday via ESPN.com. “We all as a collective group have to do a better job play in and play out.

The Browns just need a quarterback who won’t make the critical mistakes that Weeden has made and rely on their defense. They might have that with Campbell, but you won’t get much out of Campbell offensively. So are we looking at games where Browns need to win 16-13? Probably. But in the AFC North, that is perfectly fine.
