Denver Broncos Must Contain Washington Redskins’ Robert Griffin III
In last week’s game, the Denver Broncos could not contain Andrew Luck in key situations, especially when it came to Luck scrambling to make a big play.
In this weekend’s matchup, the Broncos face a true mobile quarterback. Washington Redskins‘ Robert Griffin III might be a bit slower since the injury he sustained in the playoffs last year, but it appears that he is getting back into the swing of things and the Broncos’ defense cannot allow him to run wild, especially on key situations like third down plays.
Because of Griffin III’s injury, the Broncos do have a slight edge because he does not have that explosive running game that he used to have. Then again, we have not seen him run for any big gains. Looking back to last year’s matchup with the Carolina Panthers, the Broncos’ defense was able to contain Cam Newton with Von Miller putting a tremendous amount of pressure on him, even forcing him to make a couple of bad throws.
Denver will need to repeat that performance against Griffin III if they want to have any shot at winning the game. The way this game looks on paper, the Broncos’ offense should be enough to win the game. However, do not forget that the Broncos are really weak at the passing game even if it does not appear that Griffin III has the kind of ability to make a difference through the air.
This game could give the Broncos some momentum heading into their bye week, so they must be able to pull out all the stops if they want to be in an even better position with the second half of the season coming up.
