Darrelle Revis’ Comments On Coaching Staff Say It All
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers just suffered another embarrassing loss on Thursday Night Football. They’ve now ran their record to a mightily unimpressive mark of 0-7 on the season. At this point, all hope is basically lost in 2013. The only remaining question – how many more games will Greg Schiano coach?
There have been a ton of negative reports out of Tampa this season indicating that Schiano has lost the locker room. His hard-nosed style is apparently just not working with the veteran members of the Bucs. One such player that’s been mentioned in these rumors, is none other than star cornerback Darrelle Revis. Rumors of a rift between Revis and Schiano have been around since the season started. After the Bucs’ beatdown loss on TNF, Revis was asked if his teammates believe in the coaching staff:
“I don’t know… I don’t know. You know, we got a game plan every week. We gotta stick to the game plan. We gotta abide by the game plan and what we’re trying to do to win. I don’t think guys are literally going out there and trying to do their own thing.”
Translation: I don’t know = No.
Anybody who tuned in and watched the Bucs for five minutes on Thursday night could see that they’re a team that’s checked out. They were going through the motions and displayed very little fire and drive. They’re done this year and it’s really only a matter of time before Schiano is done as well. Tampa needs to go in another direction and clear the air by firing Schiano. I don’t even see the point of retaining him for another day.
Revis’ comments speak volumes. If the players were bought in, he would have said so. Saying that he doesn’t know, means that he knows and he’s just being professional by not saying it out loud. The Bucs’ front office will say it out loud for everybody in the near future, when they hold a press conference to announce the firing of Greg Schiano.
