The Arizona Cardinals have been struggling for more than a few years now. They thought this year would be different with the addition of Carson Palmer, but that hasn’t been the case. It’s been the same-old story in Arizona this year. They have a decent defense, good skill position players but no quarterback to get them where they want to go.

Instead of bringing in older veterans like Palmer or late-round type rookies, the Cardinals need to do whatever it takes to get their hands on one of the top passers in the upcoming draft. A draft that is loaded with potential franchise quarterback, by the way. They need to do whatever it takes to make sure they end up with a top-five pick.

Unfortunately, they’re not quite bad enough to get themselves there this year. They have just enough talent on their team, especially on the defensive side of the ball, to wind up with just a few victories. What they should do is find a way to ensure that they do, and if they can get themselves a few extra draft picks at the same time then that just a bonus.

It’s a hard pill to swallow, but unless the Cardinals find a true franchise quarterback, they are going to stay at the bottom of the NFC standings for years to come. They need to understand where they are, and be willing to sacrifice in the short-term so they can be successful at the highest levels in the long-term.

These are the five players the Cardinals should trade to find themselves in the position to finally take care of their quarterback issues.

5. Karlos Dansby

Karlos Dansby still has some good NFL left in him. Now is the time to sell high on him and get some value from a contender who needs help on defense.

4. Eric Winston

Eric Winston has been a serviceable option on the offensive line for the Cardinals. Good, proven offensive lineman can be valuable to contenders who fear they don't have enough depth on the line.

3. Carson Palmer

The Carson Palmer experience has been less then what we expected. Palmer and his strong arm could have been what the Arizona passing game needed, but he just doesn't have enough in the tank to be a good starting quarterback anymore.

2. Tyrann Mathieu

Time to sell high. The Cardinals took a chance on Tyrann Mathieu when they took the formerly-trouble safety in the 2013 draft. He's done pretty well so far, they should be able to find a team willing to risk a pretty good pick on him.

1. Larry Fitzgerald

I know it would hurt the fans, but Larry Fitzgerald needs a change of scenery. He's too much of a nice guy to admit he wants out, but trading him to a contender with a good quarterback is just the right thing to do at this point.
