New York Jets: Defense Looks Pathetic vs. Cincinnati Bengals
For all the discussion of New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan’s awesome defense, they did not perform against the Cincinnati Bengals. Receiver Marvin Jones broke out on this game’s first drive by finishing with a touchdown. Quarterback Andy Dalton got into a nice rhythm right away with four first half scores. For all pressure that was great last week against New England Patriots signal caller Tom Brady, Dalton had too much time when dropping back. Muhammad Wilkerson brings tremendous pass rush usually and had an interception. Again, their secondary looked exposed. There were moments of excitement on the goal line stand. These times of positive feelings did not last very long.
Gang Green quickly found their defense leaving them in a quick 14-point deficit.
Quarterback Geno Smith tried to keep up and that led to a pick six. While Quinton Coples also can make things easier for pass coverage by wreacking havoc up front, he was nowhere to be found on Sunday. Opinions from experts showed that great play at defensive line greatly outplays secondary coverage skills. Antonio Allen performed really well last week intercepting Brady and running in for a touchdown. Allen and Dawan Landry can form a nice coverage tandem but Dalton tore them up Week 8 during their matchup.
New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees gets the next look at Gang Green in Week 9. If they play like this then Brees will have so much success. Coach Ryan must make a better plan and obviously execution has to improve.
