With Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline fast approaching, the Baltimore Ravens have very little time to make a decision regarding the improvement of their football team. One area that must be addressed is the wide receiver position and one player that could immediately fix that issue is New York Giants’ Hakeem Nicks.
If the Ravens want any shot at catching the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC North, they must acquire Nicks or someone that is capable of upgrading the wide receiver position. Nicks is the best bet, although he is someone that several teams are into. The good news for Baltimore is that they clearly know what it takes to win a Super Bowl. Not to mention, they are just a couple adjustments away from making some noise in the division this season.
Nicks is in the final year of his contract, which means the Ravens could just be renting him. With that being said, if renting a stellar receiver means the difference between a possible postseason run and missing the playoffs all together, it is quite obvious what the organization should do. Baltimore also should not fret about surrendering a second- or third-round draft pick for him because he is definitely worth the price.
Nicks has hauled in 34 receptions for 521 receiving yards and zero touchdowns on a terrible Giants team this season. He would instantly become Baltimore’s second most productive receiver behind Torrey Smith. There is no question Nicks’ numbers would improve with Joe Flacco and a mildly better offense around him.
The most important part about the addition of Nicks would mean a better running game for the Ravens, which is something that must happen if they want to make the playoffs a reality.
