NFL Trade Deadline: Pittsburgh Steelers Should Trade for Hakeem Nicks
At 2-5, the Pittsburgh Steelers look like a team that is all but out of the playoff race and it’s only week nine. In an AFC North being dominated by the Cincinnati Bengals and the AFC featuring plenty of good teams at the moment, the Steelers’ chances to make the postseason are all but gone.
Most recently, the Steelers dropped to the Oakland Raiders 21-18; a game most thought they could come out and win convincingly with the way they were playing up to that point.
With the NFL trade deadline coming on Tuesday, one of the players that has been in rumors for a while is New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks. With the way the Giants’ season has been going and their playoff chances also being minimal, they just might be able to swing a deal where they would get a pick or two in return for Nicks, and PIttsburgh would be a great spot.
Ben Roethlisberger has a couple of quick guys like Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders to throw to, but Nicks would give him the big-bodied, big-play receiver the team needs at the moment. Being able to take some pressure off his fellow receivers, Nicks would open up the offense in a big way.
Nicks is still young enough to invest a future in too, if you’re the Steelers. Roethlisberger needs a big receiver like him and the Steelers wouldn’t have a lot to lose if they threw a third round pick New York’s way to see if they’d bite. Who knows how desperate New York would be by the time the deadline comes, but Nicks is a guy that could wind up elsewhere very shortly.
