Sidney Rice went down on Monday Night Football and didn’t return to the game. Details of his injury weren’t really disclosed at the time, but then Pete Carroll explained he was dealing with concussion issues on Tuesday morning. Now, news has come out of Seattle Seahawks‘ camp that the wide receiver is done for the year with a torn ACL. So while the news of a torn ACL is surprising because we all thought he had another concussion, news of the WR being injured is the furthest thing from surprising.

Over the last four years, being injured has become the norm for Rice. He’s missed significant time in three of the last four seasons and now you have to wonder – is his career in Seattle over?

If you look at his contract it will tell you that he’s still on the books for another two seasons. However, if you look a little bit closer, you’ll see that those final two years include no guaranteed money. The WR is set to make $17.5 million in base salary through 2015, but the Seahawks can cut him without paying out another nickel.

So now that Rice will be out somewhere between 8-12 months, you just have to think he’ll be cut loose. Will he land on his feet with another team? Probably, because he is no doubt talented. But at the same time, you have to wonder if he’ll hang up his cleats for good.
