Win Over Houston Texans Could Nearly Seal Division Title for Indianapolis Colts

Indianapolis, IN- The biggest news over the bye week for the Indianapolis Colts has been the Reggie Wayne injury. Everyone wants to know how they will fare with losing what some consider the backbone of this team. Wayne has never missed a game in his career and is the team’s leading receiver so far this season with 503 yards and two touchdowns on 38 receptions.

One thing I do know will be clear is a win on Sunday night against the Houston Texans will all but seal an AFC South division title for the Colts. If the Colts win, which it’s very likely they could with how well they’re playing and how bad the Texans have been, they would move to 6-2 while Houston would drop to 2-6. That’s a four game lead with eight games left.

The only other threat for the division would be the Tennessee Titans as they’re currently 3-4 but have a tough game on the road against the St. Louis Rams this week. The Titans have lost three straight games entering their contest, and a loss with a Colts win would put them three games out.

That’s a nice cushion on the division for Indianapolis with a three-game lead on second and four-game lead on third with only eight games left. Also mix in the fact Indianapolis would have won two division road games of the three they play during a season. The lone game left would be at the Titans in Week 11 on Thursday Night Football, but they’d get the rest of them at home later in the year.

The Titans lost to the Colts the last several years in Lucas Oil Stadium including giving them their first win of the 2011 season. There’s no way they could have a shot this year. The Texans have never beaten the Colts in Indianapolis, and the Jacksonville Jaguars are terrible this year and winless. That should be three victories for the Colts at home and put them even more games up on the rest of the bunch.

So without any other games taken into consideration besides divisional games left, Indianapolis could be 10-2. Even if they lose to the rest of the opponents they’d still have equal or less losses than the rest of the division with the tiebreaker on everyone.

That’s why this game Sunday is key for Indianapolis to get a huge divisional win on the road.
