Kansas City Chiefs Rumors: Jay Ratliff Meets With Team, to Sign Soon?

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

The Dallas Cowboys rank dead last in defense this season, though somehow manage to be in the playoff race in a very ugly division. They’ve managed to give up over 400 yards passing to four different quarterbacks in just eight games, and much of the problems have come via the defensive line.

So, with that said, giving up on Jay Ratliff was a bit curious — but don’t get me wrong, it was justified.

After having an issue with Jerry Jones and the team following a groin injury needing surgery last December, the team released him having not played in just about a year. Nearly two years ago, Ratliff was given $18 million in an extension and looked like he could continue to be a huge force for the Boys.

Now having been released and also facing charges of driving while intoxicated, Ratliff is searching for a job — and there are some intriguing teams interested.

Both the Kansas City Chiefs and Chicago Bears have met with Ratliff recently, with the Chiefs being a possible favorite to land him. Ratliff could end up playing within a month or so, and that may be the reason the Bears end up passing on him. Chicago needs help immediately up front due to injuries, and Ratliff can’t give them that.

In eight seasons, Ratliff has totaled 27 sacks and 12 fumble recoveries. A four-time Pro Bowler, Ratliff, 29, wants to prove he is not done playing at a high level just yet. Despite his injury, he may be worth a look from the Chiefs and at the moment, there’s not a more desirable record to hop aboard with. 8-0 is tough to argue with wanting to play for, and Ratliff very well may end up in Kansas City.

Expecting to make his decision shortly, there is supposedly one more unnamed team interested in Ratliff. But, at this point, the Chiefs should be considered the favorite.
