Green Bay Packers’ Micah Hyde a Rising Star

Micah Hyde

Denny Medley-USA TODAY Sports

When the Green Bay Packers entered training camp they knew that rookie Micah Hyde had the promise to become a star on their defense. The rookie out of the University of Iowa has shown just that. Hyde has energized the Packers defense and given the team a threat they have missed since the release of Charles Woodson. Losing Woodson made it a tough transition for Green Bay because they lost that threat of bringing the safety blitz and getting to the quarterback efficiently. The answer to that problem seems to be Micah Hyde as he has been very successful getting to the quarterback and disrupting the flow of the opponents’ offense.

Over the last three games, Hyde has one sack and a forced fumble on his resume. He is beginning to show that he can start in the free safety spot next to Morgan Burnett due to the fact that Jerrod McMillian has not played well as of late. If you watch the Packers it doesn’t take long to notice the young defensive back out of Iowa. He flies all over the field making sure tackles, which is another issue the Packers had last year in wrapping up opponents. Hyde has been able to step up on defense when other key players have been sidelined with injuries. Since the Packers lost Clay Matthews and Nick Perry for the past few weeks, Hyde was able to step up to the plate and make plays on a defense that needed just that.

Hyde is also becoming quite the threat on special teams. On Sunday night in Minnesota after Cordarrelle Patterson returned a kickoff for an NFL record tying 109-yards, Hyde answered later with his own 93-yard punt return for a score. The punt return duties have been up in the air since the release of Jeremy Ross in September after a crucial fumble against the Cincinnati Bengals which led to a touchdown. The loss of Randall Cobb from the punt return game has also been a huge loss for Green Bay, due to his electrifying returns the Packers have gotten used to that have been missing from their special teams. It seems that Hyde could also be the answer on special teams just like defense. On Sunday night, it seemed that he has taken control of the position and will continue to see more playing time at the punt return role.

Moving forward this season, Mike McCarthy has come out and said that Hyde will continue to see more time and be a more prominent player on both defense and special teams. In just his first professional season, Hyde has been coming on strong and it doesn’t look as if the fifth round pick is going to slow down now. The Packers look to have found the next rising star on their defense the way the team always has through their draft and develop system. Hyde is just another product of that, and he will continue to impress both fans and teammates as a star on defense and special teams in the near future.

Watch Fitzgerald Send Cardinals To NFC Title Game

I pronounce this the greatest game I've ever witnessed. There aren't enough words to describe the ebbs and flows that occurred during the fourth quarter of this NFC Divisional Playoff. Both teams should be proud of the way they played, but the Cardinals will be the ones moving on after this Larry Fitzgerald touchdown.

You have got to be kidding me! The Green Bay Packers sent the game to overtime with this insane Hail Mary completion. What are Patrick Peterson and Justin Bethel doing so deep in the end zone. This game has been absolutely insane.

Watch Cardinals' Palmer Throw Ugly Interception

For someone who played like a MVP all season long, Carson Palmer has looked anything but tonight against the Green Bay Packers. If he doesn't redeem himself in the fourth quarter, the No. 2 seed Arizona Cardinals will be sitting at home watching the playoffs with the rest of us next week.

Packers' Lacy Needs Oxygen After This Run

Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy doesn't look like he's missed any meals recently, if you catch my drift. Despite the extra weight he's carrying around these days, Lacy was able to bust out into the open field for this huge 61-yard run.
