Jonathan Vilma Will See First Action of the Season Against the New York Jets
It appears that the New Orleans Saints will have linebacker Jonathan Vilma available for the first time this season. The Saints promoted Vilma to the active roster this week and he could see some action against his former team, the New York Jets. While Vilma might only see limited playing time, he should certainly give the Saints a boost.
Vilma is one of the leaders of the Saints and he should surely play tough in his first game of the season. Vilma might not be the best fit for the Saints’ new 3-4 defense, but he will be a sight for sore eyes. The Saints’ defensive line has been banged up all season as multiple players have gone down with various injuries, some of which were season ending.
When Vilma plays, he will likely line up as the left inside linebacker next to Curtis Lofton. Vilma should not be too rusty despite missing the first eight weeks because he has been practicing the past two weeks. Furthermore, Vilma has had the opportunity to observe and learn the defense on the sidelines.
It remains to be seen what kind of impact Vilma will have for the Saints, but I am sure he will be fired up in his return. Vilma and the Saints are facing a 4-4 Jets team that has been so up-and-down this season. However, the Saints have an elite offense and good defense so I would expect them to beat the Jets. Vilma should be able to help the Saints secure another win this week even if he does not get that much playing time.
