New Orleans Saints’ Offense Will be Fine With or Without Marques Colston

The New Orleans Saints will be on the road this week as they square off against the 4-4 New York Jets. With the return of Jonathan Vilma the Saints are close to getting back to full strength. However, the Saints offense could be missing a key player this week against the Jets. Wide receiver Marques Colston is listed as questionable this week and there is chance that he will not play.

Colston was limited in practice this week and could be a game-time decision. Colston has been having another solid season for the Saints as he hauled in 27 catches for 342 yards and one touchdown. If Colston does not play the Saints’ passing game should not suffer too much.

The Saints are incredibly deep at wide receiver and they also have the best tight end in the NFL in Jimmy Graham. If Colston cannot go this week then Graham will get the majority of the targets from Drew Brees. However, Brees does a great job of spreading the ball around so his other wide receivers will get some receptions too.

Specifically, Kenny Stills could have a big game this week since he will surely get more targets this week. The rookie sensation has become a deep threat for the Saints and has made a number of big plays this season. Lance Moore and Robert Meachem could see an increase in targets too if Colston does not play. The Saints have more than enough talent in their receiving corps to compensate if Colston does not play.

There is still the possibility that Colston could play and if he does the Saints’ passing game will not miss a beat. Furthermore, the Saints will have one of their most consistent receivers available and that is never a bad thing. We will see if Colston plays or not, but either way the Saints’ offense will be just fine.
