Philadelphia Eagles: Nick Foles, LeSean McCoy Key Players to Watch on Sunday
This Sunday’s game is on the offense. Billy Davis has managed to get the Philadelphia Eagles‘ defense playing like a team over the last two weeks. They’ve held their ground and kept games close. The offense has slowed to a full stop without a touchdown in eight quarters of football.
At the halfway mark, the team has flipped the power structure and who would have thought that the offense would be a weakness with Chip Kelly at the helm? Not many, but here we are, waiting for him to solve things and get started again. A win this week would help to get things back on track and, if it is to happen, all eyes should be on Nick Foles and LeSean McCoy.
Foles, after a week off from his head injury, has a large monkey hanging on his back from the last horrific start. You can’t judge a young quarterback by one bad game (Matt Barkley should be thankful) and this is his time to recover and show the league he can roll with the punches. The survivors take their good and bad weeks in stride, moving on to the next game as soon as the current one is finished. Foles can grow this week. He needs to run the offense, read the defense, make throws and not second-guess himself. If he can get it done, there is a strong chance to expect a win.
McCoy has stalled over the last few games. His run production has fallen, as with the entire offense, and now he must find a way to get it back. There was more than one chance last week where it appeared that he made the wrong call and ran outside his blocks. He needs to trust his line again, trust his quarterback and make sure to focus on positive yards. He doesn’t need to follow Bryce Brown and take every run to the outside. He needs to find his form again, make people miss and take over the game.
If Foles and McCoy can have a good game on Sunday, the offense will find the spark it has missed and the team can get a much-needed win.
