Tennessee Titans Could Be Bound For 2013 NFL Playoffs

The Tennessee Titans defeated the St. Louis Rams 28–21 in a game that saw past Tennessee head coach Jeff Fisher face off against his former team for the first time since returning to the league.

The Titans, who have been successful so far this season mostly due to their vastly improved defense, let St. Louis running back Zac Stacy carry for 127 yards and two touchdowns by basically running straight down the middle of the defense the entire game. However, the defense came up big when Jurrell Casey sacked Kellen Clemens and forced a fumble late in the fourth quarter. Titans running back Chris Johnson would then take the ball 19 yards on the next play for the game winning touchdown. Johnson had his best game of the season so far and could help lead the Titans to the 2013 NFL Playoffs.

After winning against the Rams, Tennessee’s record is now at 4–4 putting them half a game behind the 5–4 current AFC Wild Card leaders, the New York Jets. However, the Titans defeated the Jets earlier in the season which means that in the event of a tie they would jump New York in the standings.

The Titans still face the Jacksonville Jaguars twice, the Oakland Raiders and the Arizona Cardinals; all of these teams should be wins for Tennessee. The harder teams remaining on their schedule are the two crucial AFC South matchups against the Indianapolis Colts, an away game against the Denver Broncos and a home game against the struggling Houston Texans. If the Titans win one of these tougher games they should be able to make it to the postseason.

Not only does Tennessee have a chance to make the playoffs in a Wild Card spot, but the AFC South is still within their reach. The next few games against the Jaguars and Colts will decide whether that’s a reality or if the Titans will have to hope a few other teams like the Miami Dolphins and Cleveland Browns drop a game or two.  Either way, Tennessee must stay focused, because a trip to the 2013 NFL Playoffs is a definite possibility.
