The Dallas Cowboys are in a spot that many people thought would come to fruition — first place in the NFC East. In one of the worst divisions in football, the 5-4 Cowboys are in first place and looking to make a solid run at a division title with the ninth-best passing offense in the league this season. Tony Romo is doing what he does best: sling the ball. Dallas looks to be one of the best offenses in the league and that is due, in large part, to the success of Romo through the air, passing for 2,553 yards and 20 touchdowns on the season. His favorite target has been Dez Bryant, obviously, and the young, fiery wide out has caught 51 passes for 705 yards and eight touchdowns this season. DeMarco Murray hopes to get more touches this week, rushing for 459 yards and three scores on the year.
Beginning the season with a 6-2 record, the New Orleans Saints look to be a serious Super Bowl contender and it might not be too long before Drew Brees wins another title. Brees has been one of the best quarterbacks in the league for the past few seasons, even breaking the single-season record for passing yards with 5,476 yards in 2011. This season, the veteran gunslinger has 2,672 yards and 21 touchdowns — on pace to get to the 5,000 mark once again. Tight end Jimmy Graham might just be the top player at the position in the NFL, catching 49 passes for 746 yards and 10 touchdowns — Brees and Graham have had one of the best connections in the league all season long. Pierre Thomas leads the 26th-ranked run game with 277 yards but no touchdowns.
Defensively, the Cowboys are one of the worst units in the league, ranking 31st in both total yards and passing yards allowed per game. They rank 15th in points allowed as well as 16th in rushing yards per game — this could be a big day for Brees. The Saints have been one of the most improved defensive teams out there, ranking ninth in total yards, fifth in passing yards and fifth in points against per game. The run defense has struggled a bit, however, ranking 25th in the NFL.
PREDICTION: Cowboys 28, Saints 31
