Nate Burleson suffered a season-altering arm injury early in the 2013 season. As you might remember, he didn’t suffer it on the football field. Burleson infamously crashed his vehicle into a wall while trying to save a pizza from falling off the seat. The wide receiver broke his arm and he’s been on the sidelines for the past six weeks. But after surgery to repair the break, it appears he’s close to a return.
Here’s what the WR had to say on his status:
“I’m not going to sit here and pull an RGIII and talk over what is common sense and that’s listen to my coaches and listen to the doctors. I want to play and that’s just me being a competitor. That doesn’t mean that my arm is ready to be out there for 60 minutes. I’m going to talk with the coaches, talk with the trainers and talk with the doctors and figure out if this week, next week or the week after is best for me.”
As you can see, Burleson didn’t just give a generic comment on his recovery. He also took a pretty big shot at Robert Griffin III. While the shot was completely unnecessary, I’m sure it made Detroit Lions‘ fans chuckle. Fans of RG3, not so much.
I don’t see the point of going ‘there’ if you’re Burleson. But maybe he was just using an example of a player that rushed back from injury? There’s no doubt that Griffin came back too soon and you could argue that it cost his team a game or two. Burleson’s return won’t have that kind of impact, but there’s no doubt the Lions need him back soon.
