With each passing day we’re getting more and more insight to the Richie Incognito–Jonathan Martin situation. Just when you think you’ve heard all sides to the story and that you have all the information, something else comes out. First it just seemed like Martin left the team after being bullied. Then we found out about the terrible voicemails that Incognito left him. After that, reports emerged that the Miami Dolphins‘ coaching staff told Incognito to ‘toughen up’ Martin. Now, Ryan Tannehill has weighed in with his two cents, which has left everyone more confused than ever.
Here’s what the Dolphins’ QB had to say on the whole fiasco:
“If you asked Jonathan Martin who his best friend in on this team two weeks ago, he’d say Richie Incognito. First guy to stand up for Jonathan when anything went down on the field, any kind of tussle, Richie was the first guy there. When they wanted to hang out outside of football, who was together, Richie and Jonathan. I’m not in those guy’s shoes. I can’t explain what’s going on.”
Best friend two weeks ago? Are you kidding me?
So given what we know, one thing seems very clear – we don’t have all the information. There’s something still flying under or a crucial piece of the puzzle that we don’t have yet. There are more and more players who are coming out in defense of Incognito and they all say that he’s not racist.
At this point, I’m just going to take that stance that I have no idea. I’m with Tannehill, ‘I can’t explain what’s going on.’ However, I don’t think anyone can at this moment.
