You knew it was only a matter of time before something else happened or another piece of information came out in the Richie Incognito fiasco. There’s of course been a circus surrounding the Miami Dolphins for the past week ever since Jonathan Martin left the team. It was later revealed that Martin was bullied by Incognito and once a strongly worded transcript from a voicemail was released on Monday, this story absolutely caught fire. But to many people’s surprise, numerous players have come out in defense of Incognito and now Martin is somewhat being painted as a weak character.
So many people like myself have been waiting for the next layer of this story to unfold. While that hasn’t necessarily happened with the latest news, it does shed more light on the type of person that Richie Incognito is.
Local 10 in Miami has released a story about Incognito from 2012. Apparently, the offensive lineman was in attendance at an annual golf event put on by the Dolphins, when he decided to start harassing a woman worker. Incognito allegedly rubbed a golf club on the woman’s genitals and then proceeded to stand behind her and rub his genitals into her backside.
Here’s part of the official police report which was filed after the woman’s complaints to the Dolphins fell on deaf ears:
“After that, he proceeded to lean up against her buttocks with his private parts as if dancing, saying ‘Let it rain! Let it rain! He finally finished his inappropriate behavior by emptying bottled water in her face.”
It’s also being reported that the woman cannot speak on the matter, because she signed a confidentiality agreement. No charges were ever filed against Incognito and this entire story has been under the rug until now.
After what we’ve learned about Incognito in the past week, is any of this surprising? Absolutely not.
