The Denver Broncos‘ top receiver broke through in a huge way.
Demaryius Thomas scored three touchdowns, the first Broncos receiver to accomplish that feat since the Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe did it about 10 years ago. He also eclipsed 100 yards receiving for the first time since Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens. It was clear in this game that Thomas was the X-Factor for the Broncos. With a huge game, the third-year wide receiver out of Georgia Tech looks to have a big career ahead of him. He was clearly Peyton Manning’s favorite target against the San Diego Chargers. Thomas clearly showed in the game why he is the Broncos’ number one wide receiver and was even during the game being compared to Calvin Johnson and A.J. Green.
Look for Thomas to get more involved in the offense. Before this afternoon’s game, he has been quiet for the most part as he has given way to Wes Welker and Julius Thomas (who caught a 74 yard touchdown himself) but Manning has done a great job spreading the ball around to all the targets. It will be challenging for corners to contain Thomas due to his size and his ability to make plays that will daze and confuse the defense.
Thomas might have a challenge repeating that performance because of all the weapons that the Broncos offense has, but every member of a team is important and Thomas will be a huge part of the offense that is looking not to break records, but crush them. Thomas is a key part and look for him to get involved more.
