10 NFL Teams You Can Stick a Fork In
10 NFL Teams That Won't Be Making the Playoffs
With NFL week 10 nearly in the books, we're left with only seven weeks to go in the season. The NFL season is flying by as usual and now we've made it to the point where some teams are all but mathematically eliminated.
Week 10 featured lots of exciting action across the country. Sunday kicked off with a classic NFC North showdown between the Lions and Bears. With control of the division on the line, the Lions came through in a big way. Matthew Stafford connected with Calvin Johnson for a couple of touchdown strikes and Detroit's defensive held held strong with the game on the line late in the fourth quarter. Now with the Packers and Bears reeling with injuries at quarterback, the Lions are in pretty good shape moving forward.
The defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens also kept their playoff hopes alive with a big divisional win on Sunday over the Bengals. It didn't come easy and without some adversity, but the end result was there for the champs. A.J. Green's hail mary reception as time expired was one of the oddball plays of the season and it seemed like it would doom the Ravens. But once again, the Baltimore defense stood strong in overtime to set up Justin Tucker for the game-winning field goal from 46 yards out.
So after all that went down in week 10, we're now left with the cream of the crop and another group of legitimate playoff contenders. But of course, there's another group of lowly teams that are all but officially done in 2013. In this slideshow we'll take a look at 10 teams that have reached fork status. As in, stick a fork in their playoff hopes:
The Raiders gave it a good run and you have to give Terrelle Pryor credit, but there's just not enough talent on the roster to make the playoffs this season in Oakland.
The Titans were in good position at 4-4 after week nine, but now as we get ready for week 11, they're all but done. It would be a different story if Jake Locker was still under center, but injuries have finally taken him out for good in 2013.
St. Louis Rams
The Rams are still fighting hard at 4-5, but there are too many good teams in the NFC for this squad to make the playoffs. Maybe if Sam Bradford was still around it would be a different story, but he's not.
The Redskins are in the exact same position they were a season ago at 3-6. However, this year's squad is different. The defense is worse and RG3 is not the same player. The only thing they have going for them is the fact that they play in the NFC East.
The Bills are slowly starting to turn things around as a franchise, but it's clear there's a ton of work still to be done. At least EJ Manuel seems like a QB they can count on moving forward.
From a 10-win team that made the playoffs a season ago, to 2-7 and last place in the NFC North. That's the story of the 2013 Vikings. If they continue their losing ways. looking for some coaching staff changes to happen before 2014 kicks off.
The Texans might be the biggest disappointment in all of football this season. This was a team projected to fight for an AFC title. Now, they're projected to hold a top-five pick in next year's draft.
It was Super Bowl or bust for the Falcons this year. Well, I think it's safe to declare this team a bust. You have to feel bad for Tony Gonzalez.
At least the Jaguars won't be joining the 2008 Lions as the only team to ever go 0-16.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers are an absolute train wreck this season. Greg Schiano will reportedly finish out the season, but there's no way he'll be back in 2014. It's a shame too, because there's a decent amount of talent on the Tampa roster.
