Jonathan Martin Reportedly Done For Season; No Way OL Can Return to Miami Dolphins

By Andrew Fisher

It’s been expected for about a week now, but reports are coming out that state Jonathan Martin is done for the year. This comes on the heels of the Richie Incogntio-bullying fiasco that’s surrounded the Miami Dolphins since Martin left the team.

This story is multi-layered and just when you think you’ve heard it all, something else happens or more details get released. Everyone was quick to bury Incognito shortly after a vulgar voicemail was released, but as more and more details have emerged, it seems that the two linemen were closer than anyone thought. Ingognito’s interview with FOX Sports made it seem like the two were actually pretty good friends.

But regardless of what truly happened, one thing is clear – Martin was not comfortable in Miami. Maybe Incognito was behind some bullying or hazing, but the overall culture was not working for Martin. He’s now going to step away from football for the remainder of 2013 and I just don’t see a way he can ever return to the Dolphins.

So with the news that Martin is done for the year, it also makes you wonder if his football career in general, is over. Maybe the culture in the Dolphins’ locker room wasn’t working for Martin, but just how different is that locker room compared to the others around the league? Maybe he’s just not cut out for pro football?

If Martin does return in 2014, one thing is for sure – it’s going to be awkward in whatever locker room he resides in.
