15 Biggest Winners and Losers from NFL Week 10
The Biggest Winners and Losers from Week 10 in the NFL
Another exciting week of NFL action is now in the books. Week 10's gameplay no doubt thrilled fans from coast to coast. There were of course some obvious winners and also some real big losers. Many teams took a step forward towards the postseason, while others took a big step back towards staying home in January.
For those teams that are basically out of the postseason mix at this point, it's not the worst thing in the world. As much as fans would like to see their teams win a few more games for pride, there's really not much to be gained by winning four or five games. If you root for a team that has one or two wins at this point, you should probably be rooting for them to lose out the rest of the way.
Tanking is not near as popular in the NFL as it is in the NBA or MLB. But in some cases, it just makes sense. No one wants to watch a miserable team, but sometimes it takes an awful season before changes get made. Maybe there's a coordinator on your team that you want to see get the axe? That's less likely to happen if your team finishes strong and improves to 6-10.
On top of that, your team could go from a top five pick, to a top 15 pick. The chances of hitting the draft lottery and landing a franchise player, greatly decrease as you move outside of the top 10. So yes, tanking is busch league, but it's also not the worst thing that could happen to your favorite team.
So now as we get set to embark on week 11 of the NFL season, it's time to recap and take a look at all the big winners and losers from week 10. Here are 15 players and teams that won and lost big:
Winner - Detroit Lions
It's been a bumpy season for the Lions in 2013, but now they're in sole possession of first place in the NFC North. It took a hard fought win on the road over the Chicago Bears to get there, so you have to give Detroit credit.
Loser - Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys got absolutely shellacked by the Saints on SNF. But the salt in the wounds came in the form of Sean Lee's hamstring injury. The star LB could now be out a month.
Loser - Washington Redskins
The Redskins lost to the lowly Vikings on TNF. They're now 3-6 and in the same position as 2012. The smart money is that there's no way they can make the playoffs again after starting in such a big hole.
Winner - Nick Foles
Foles continued to throw darts in week 10. He's now thrown 10 touchdown passes in the last two games combined and it looks like the Eagles finally have themselves a QB they can count on.
Loser - Chicago Bears
The Bears are no longer in control of their own destiny in the NFC North and Jay Cutler is hurt again. At least for week 10, the Bears were big losers.
Loser - Joe Philbin
The bullying fiasco has taken the Dolphins by storm over the past two weeks. Now after a loss on MNF, Joe Philbin's coaching seat is hotter than ever.
Winner - Baltimore Ravens
It wasn't pretty, but the Ravens notched their fourth win of the season in week 10. The defending champs are now alive and well in the AFC Wild Card battle and you can't yet rule them out of the AFC North race.
Loser - Tennessee Titans
You can make a solid case for the Titans being the biggest losers of week 10. Not only did they lose to the Jaguars, they also lost Jake Locker for the season. You can go ahead and stick a fork in them.
Winner - Rob Ryan
No one had a bigger smile on their face after week 10 than Rob Ryan. Not only did the Saints cruise to a win on SNF, they did it over the team that fired Ryan after the 2012 season.
Winner - Jacksonville Jaguars
You have to give credit where credit is due. No one was giving the Jaguars a chance of knocking off the Titans on the road, but Gus Bradley's bunch got the job done in week 10.
Loser - Green Bay Packers
The Packers have now lost two straight games and they've resorted to re-signing Matt Flynn. With Aaron Rodgers likely on the shelf for three more weeks, it's time to panic in Green Bay.
Winner - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Bucs have been getting killed all season long. But it's finally time we give them a tip of the cap. Greg Schiano's team is officially off the schneid, but they're still likely headed for a last place finish in the AFC South.
Winner - Arizona Cardinals
The Cardinals finally got back above .500 with a hard fought win over the Texans in week 10. It's too early to buy them as playoff contenders, but they're no doubt alive and well.
Loser - Arian Foster
You can stick a fork in the Houston Texans and the same can be said for Arian Foster's season. The star running back is set to have back surgery and fans are now wondering if he'll ever be the same.
Winner - New York Giants
Just when you thought they were down and out, Tom Coughlin's team has reeled off two straight. Given the state of this year's NFC East, you can't count the G-Men out moving forward.
Subjecting Cutler to Competition is Best for Bears
If the Chicago Bears want to get the most out of Jay Cutler, an open competition is the best way to do it. Read More
