Demeco Ryans is playing ball right now for the Philadelphia Eagles. Fresh off a 14-tackle game which also included a pick and two tackles for loss, Ryans is asserting himself as the Eagles’ difference maker in the middle of the defense.
In a defense said to be devoid of playmakers, Ryans is certainly making his case. Every week he seems to be in the right place at the right time. He is also responsible for making checks at the line and getting everyone in the right place. Ryans has emerged as the next great Eagles midde linebacker.
We all know about the tradition the Eagles have had in the middle. From the all-time great Chuck Bednarik, to Seth Joyner and finally Jeremiah Trotter, a ton of great middle linebackers made their mark on Philadelphia. There was a gap after that, though.
The Eagles had average players fill in for a number of years and it really affected what they did on defense. They finally found a gem in Ryans. Some said Ryans couldn’t play a 3-4 defense anymore. Boy, were they wrong. He has had the biggest impact of any player on defense this year.
He is also the guy that keeps everyone in line when they get out of hand. The true leader of the defense and the leader in the locker room. You win ball games with players like Ryans. The next great Eagles middle linebacker is here and he is here to stay as a cornerstone of this defense for many years to come.
