The Kansas City Chiefs are getting set to take their undefeated record on the road to face the Denver Broncos. The two AFC West squads will duke it out on Sunday Night Football in front of a nationwide audience, in what figures to be one of the best games of 2013. But now troubling news has emerged for the Chiefs. Dwayne Bowe was reportedly arrested on Sunday night after he was stopped for speeding. The wide receiver was allegedly in possession of marijuana, so of course he was hauled off to jail and now his status for SNF is in question.
Even though Bowe was hauled off to jail, I think we all know what’s going to happen next. The short answer is – nothing. The Chiefs will issue some sort of statement saying that they’re ‘looking into the matter’ or that they’re going to ‘let the legal process take its course’. There is no way in you know where, that Kansas City is going to play this game without its best pass-catcher.
Although Bowe is viewed as the team’s best receiver, and there’s no doubt he’s the most talented receiver on the roster, the stat sheet will tell you otherwise. Both Jamaal Charles and Donnie Avery have more receiving yards than Bowe in 2013.
The Chiefs need Bowe to look like his old self on Sunday night. They’re finally in a game where they’re going to have to put up a lot of points. The KC defense has been absolutely tremendous in 2013, but it’s time for the offense to take shape. That starts with Dwayne Bowe on the outside.
We’ll have to wait and see if the WR is disciplined, but I’m going to highly doubt he will be by the Chiefs. However, if the NFL decides to weigh in before the legal process takes its course, then things could be different.
