Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Next Pro Bowler: Lavonte David

By John Beauchamp

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers season has not gone the way they exactly wanted it to go but there is still a lot of talent on this team. One of these players is sophomore linebacker Lavonte David. David is a quick outside linebacker who is currently ranked third amongst the other outside linebackers in tackles with a total of 78. David also has five sacks with 10 tackles for a loss.

Against the New York JetsDavid made a boneheaded move on a late hit against Geno Smith which actually cost them the game; David took a lot of heat for this move as his name trended on Twitter as people looked at him as the one to blame for the loss. Even Buccaneers’ Hall of Fame defensive tackle Warren Sapp said that it was the dumbest play of the year. David responded to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times by saying, “I wouldn’t have hit him if I thought he wasn’t going to stay in bounds, they said he was out of a bounds so the guy called the flag. To me, he was in bounds.” It was obvious that Smith was going out of bounds but either way throughout the rest of this season David has been proving that he isn’t a boneheaded player.

Regardless of not being elected as a captain, David has been the statistical leader of the Buccaneers with the most solo tackles, assisted tackles, sacks, tackles for a loss and passes defended. David has shown the fans that he deserves to go to Hawaii but hopefully the rest of nation will find him worthy.
