The Baltimore Ravens receiving corps has been looking very healthy lately with Jacoby Jones, Deonte Thompson and Marlon Brown all returning from injury. With that said, it is clear that there is no need to carry six receivers on the roster. With Tandon Doss earning his keep on punt returns, that leaves one odd man out. Brandon Stokley has no business being on the Ravens’ roster.
There are players from the practice squad who could be of use on Sundays, but due to the Ravens keeping Stokley on the roster some deserving player cannot be brought up. If Stokley was making an impact then I could see his worth, but he has been inactive most of the season due to injuries. When Stokley was active he did not produce much. Nine receptions for 79 yards on the year is hardly reason enough to keep him in Baltimore. That’s especially true when the receiving corps is producing and Joe Flacco is actually able to get them the ball.
It’s time to send the 37 year old former Super Bowl Champion riding off into the sunset. I am not sure why he has managed to stay on the roster this long. Anyone born in 1976 should not be on any active roster, they should be looking into their next career to be honest. Saying such a thing is acceptable now that Ray Lewis (Born in 1975) is no longer in the building. From the beginning I thought bringing in the old man for the slot was a horrible move by Ozzie Newsome. I’m sure Doss and Brown felt the need to prove that point and have done so. Hopefully they will release Stokley soon to give a rising star on the practice squad a chance to shine.
