Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Is Mike Williams Being Missed?

This has been a rocky year for Tampa Bay Buccaneers‘ receiver Mike Williams, who has been injured since the Week 8 game against the Carolina Panthers, and will miss the rest of the season. His injury originally occurred during Week 4 against the Arizona Cardinals, which kept him out two weeks through a bye week and the Philadelphia Eagles. Williams returned for the Week 7 game against the Atlanta Falcons, and also played the next week against the Panthers, but his injury could not be healed naturally. So, a few weeks ago, Williams underwent surgery in Miami, which caused him to miss the remainder of the season.

Williams just signed a six-year deal with the Buccaneers this summer, but since the Buccaneers’ offense seems to be performing better without him, the question is, are the Buccaneers even missing him?

Since Williams stepped off the field for the season, the Buccaneers are averaging 29 points per game; before his injury, the Buccaneers averaged 14 points per game, which is obviously a very significant point differential.

The Buccaneers’ offense has changed drastically since Week 1 by installing Mike Glennon and releasing Josh Freeman, releasing Kevin Ogletree and resigning Tiquan Underwood, signing Bobby Rainey in place of injured Doug Martin and Mike James, starting Tim Wright over Luke Stocker and Tom Crabtree, and then, of course, losing Williams to his injury. It’s been rough, but the Buccaneers have finally seemed to place the right players in the right positions, winning two games straight.

Williams was a critical loss to the Buccaneers’ offense, but right now, it seems that the offense can still perform without him.
