5 Reasons Why The Philadelphia Eagles Will Win The Super Bowl

The Philadelphia Eagles have been one of the most interesting teams to watch in the NFL this season. They came into the year with big expectations, saw them soar even higher after a big Week 1 win, then plummet back down to earth in the first by the time October came around. But the Eagles are flying high again after winning their last three games. Flying so high, in fact, that they have their sights set on the Super Bowl.

New head coach Chip Kelly finally has his offense humming. Thanks in large part to the emergence of second-year quarterback Nick Foles, Philadelphia heads into their bye week at 6-5 and in sole possession of first place in the NFC East. What once looked like a doomed first year for Kelly in the pros is now as promising as it was this summer.

If the Eagles can keep their momentum going — not always the easiest thing to do in the NFL — they will find themselves in the playoffs and in a good position to make a deep run this winter. If there’s anything that the NFL has shown us the last few years, it’s not the team that comes into the playoffs with the most wins who gets the Lombardi trophy at the end of the tournament -- it’s the team that has the momentum at the right time.

The Philadelphia fans have long waited to be on board when the Eagles put it all together and come home with a championship. After so many postseason disappointments in the Andy Reid era, they’re much more concerned with success in January and February than they are in September and October.

The good news for Philly fans? These are the five reasons why the Eagles will win the Super Bowl this year.

First-year head coach Chip Kelly brought his new-school offense to the NFL this year. You might have heard. It looked like that offense wasn't going to work in the pros, but now that Foles has taken over at quarterback they are getting better as the year goes on. More on him later.

4. The Defense Is Quietly Good

All of the talk around the Eagles this year has been about the offense, but the defense has more than held its own. Ranked 15th in the league in points-per-game, the Philly defense is only giving up 23.6 on average to their opponents. That kind of defense will keep them in games come playoff time.

3. They Have An Easy Division To Win

You can't win the Super Bowl if you don't make the playoffs, and the easiest way for the Eagles to get there is to win the relatively easy NFC East. It will probably only take 10 wins to get the job done, and they're well on their way.

2. They're On A Roll

Momentum

It's all about momentum in the NFL playoffs. The last two Super Bowl winners rode early emotional postseason wins to the championship. The confidence to get those kinds of wins is being built in the Philadelphia locker room right now.

1. Nick Foles Is For Real

Actually, if there's anything more important than momentum to winning a championship it's having a quarterback who is playing at an elite level. They don't have to be elite, they just have to play like an elite quarterback for a few weeks. Just look at Eli Manning or Joe Flacco. Nick Foles is the hottest passer in the league right now, and if he can keep it up through the playoffs he'll be holding the Lombardi trophy in a few months.
