5 NFL Teams Facing Must-Win Games in Week 12
5 NFL Teams That Must Win in Week 12, Or Else...
As the stretch run of the 2013 NFL season approaches, it's most certainly put up or shut up time for many teams around the league. The field of potential playoff teams has shrunk over the last couple of games and week 12 will no doubt eliminate a few more.
In this slideshow we'll take a look at five teams facing must-win games in week 12, but first, let's take a look at the top teams in each conference.
In the AFC there are two familiar faces leading the way. Peyton Manning has the Denver Broncos atop the conference as we head into week 12, but Tom Brady and Patriots aren't far behind. New England is currently tied with the Colts for the No. 2 spot in the AFC, with the tiebreaker currently going Indy's way. But once week 12 is in the books, everything could change. The Colts have a tough road game against the Cardinals and the Pats could easily knock off the Broncos on SNF.
In the NFC, the top two spots are already locked up heading into week 13. The 10-1 Seahawks are on a bye, while the Saints already won in week 12 against the Falcons on Thursday Night Football. After that, It's a cluster you know what from 3-10. The Lions are technically the three seed at 6-4 at this point, but every team all the way down to No. 10 is at least 5-5. It's safe to say, anything could happen in the NFC over the final six weeks.
So that leaves us with five teams that will have to fight hard to stay alive in week 12. All of these teams are in must-win situations and all of them can still make the playoffs. But, a lot will need to happen between now and the end of December:
New York Jets
A week ago everyone was talking about the 'trap' game New York had against Buffalo. Now after they were beat down by the Bills, the Jets find themselves in a must-win game on the road against the Ravens. This young Jets team cannot afford to drop to 5-6 heading into the final five weeks.
The Titans' season is on life supporting following two straight losses and the loss of starting quarterback Jake Locker. Technically, Tennessee is still alive, but winning must resume immediately in week 12. The chances of that are solid, as the Titans have a date with the Raiders.
San Diego Chargers
The Chargers just haven't been able to get it together in 2013. After three straight losses, they're in big trouble. Things won't be easy this weekend in Kansas City, but if San Diego can escape with a win, the season will be saved for at least another week.
Green Bay Packers
It's been a terrible three weeks for the Packers without Aaron Rodgers. The good news in week 12 is that the Vikings are coming to town. If Green Bay can't knock off a last place team and Rodgers remains out, things could get ugly for the Packers.
New York Giants
After an 0-6 start, here the Giants are again. Sure they play in a crap division, but the reality is that they're still very much in the battle for the NFC East title. A win over the Cowboys this Sunday is a must. Even the Coughlin-led G-Men would have a hard time fighting back from 4-7.
