New Orleans Saints’ Drew Brees Continues Hall of Fame Career With Another Milestone
This past Thursday, the New Orleans Saints swept their season series against the Atlanta Falcons with a 17-13 victory. It was another close game like their season opener, and neither team was particularly flashy. It was pretty much a regular divisional game between the two franchises and it once again came down to the final seconds.
Lost in the middle of all of this, however, was the fact that Saints quarterback Drew Brees accomplished yet another milestone. He had a relatively mild outing compared to what we have seen before. He went 23-of-33 passing, 278 yards and two touchdowns. What he accomplished, though, was surpass Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon for career passing yards in the NFL.
Brees’ 278-yard performance brought his career yardage to 49,566 yards, as he is now trailing just John Elway, Dan Marino, Peyton Manning and of course, Brett Favre. It is impossible to try and guess exactly where Brees will end up on this list whenever he decided to finish his career and retire, but at just 34-years-old, we can only imagine.
He might even surpass Elway’s 51,475 career passing yards, or at least come very close. Brees is averaging 332 yards per game this season; extrapolated to the end of the season, that would give him an additional 1,660 yards by the end of the season. That would leave him just 249 yards short of Elway. It is certainly doable.
Regardless of where Brees finishes the season and when his career finally ends, he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.
