Green Bay Packers Offensive Line Costly Penalties Can’t Happen

Penalties

Jeff Hanisch-USA TODAY Sports

As you may already know, the Green Bay Packers‘ record is currently 5-5-1 thanks to their most recent game against the Minnesota Vikings, which ended in a 26-26 tie. It was a game that went back and forth and had many interesting storylines, including Matt Flynn getting playing time and leading a comeback for the Packers.

Unfortunately for Flynn and the Packers, the offensive line was called for three costly penalties on their last possession of overtime, which took away any chances of the Packers getting a win. Two of the three penalties were false start penalties and as a fan, I can’t fathom how those penalties are possible while the offense is in a hurry-up formation.

The line should get into their stance and be ready for a quick snap. There is no hard count from the quarterback at all in those situations (the team had no timeouts with less than 1:25), so there is absolutely no excuse for any false starts. These are unacceptable and will certainly be a point of emphasis for head coach Mike McCarthy on Monday.

The Packers have their biggest game of the season coming up on Thursday against the Detroit Lions. The game will decide who is going to be in first place in the NFC North division and in order for the Packers to overcome a very good opponent in a hostile environment, they must clean up these cheap penalties and make sure they are on their A game come kickoff on Turkey Day.
