There is Hope for the Detroit Lions’ Defense
The Detroit Lions need all the help they can get to finish off the last five games of the season and have a legit shot at a postseason appearance. The Lions’ defense has not lived up to expectations throughout the year, but there is someone who has been truly missed. Defensive end Ezekiel Ansah has bounced back from injuries and has made an immediate contribution to Detroit’s front four. Despite missing a few games since Week 8 after suffering a high-ankle sprain, Ziggy has already recorded five sacks on the year, the last two coming against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ansah leads the defensive line in sacks and has that special play-making ability to make the team look better on just a few plays.
I believe Ziggy Ansah is what a first round pick should be able to do in the NFL. He probably needs some time to adjust but much was expected from him. Ansah has proven to be the ideal fit along with Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley to disrupt the passing game. Honestly, like many others, I had my doubts about Ansah making it in the NFL and thought perhaps he could be the next great NFL Draft bust.
Against Tampa Bay, Ziggy only recorded two tackles but both of these came as sacks; he was absolutely dominant. In my opinion, Ziggy can only get better over the next five games to help the Lions win their division. I look forward to seeing the Lions use more blitz packages and a reloaded defensive line disturbing the passing attack more efficiently. I predict Ziggy Ansah will finish his rookie season with 10 sacks and a playoff appearance.
