2013 NFL Power Rankings Week 13: Look Out For the Arizona Cardinals
2013 NFL Power Rankings Week 13
With the way things played out in Week 12--it's going to be an exciting finish to the NFL season. Without wasting any more time, let's jump into the 2013 NFL Power Rankings for Week 13.
While there were plenty of exciting games to take away from Week 12, the most exciting of all came on Sunday night in the battle between the Denver Broncos and New England Patriots as Peyton Manning and Tom Brady provided us with another epic battle. For a game that appeared to be on it's way to a tie, the Patriots caught a break towards the end of overtime as they took advantage of a fumble on special teams before kicking the game winning field goal to improve to 8-3 on the year.
As for the rest of the league, the Arizona Cardinals continued to look like one of the hottest teams in the league as they picked up their fourth-straight win to improve to 7-4 on the year. The Cardinals arguably have one of the league's most dangerous defenses and if they continue to play at this high level--look out for them in the Wild Card spot in the NFC.
There's plenty to talk about this week--so here's a look at the 2013 NFL Power Rankings for Week 13.
32. Houston Texans 2-9 (31)
Just when you think the Houston Texans couldn't hit a new low, they lose to the Jacksonville Jaguars at home for their ninth-straight loss.
31. Atlanta Falcons 2-9 (30)
They kept it close, but the Atlanta Falcons just couldn't upset the New Orleans Saints and have officially been eliminated from playoff contention.
30. Jacksonville Jaguars 2-9 (32)
Maurice Jones-Drew finally had a solid game to help the Jacksonville Jaguars pick up their second win of the season--which nobody expected on the road.
29. Minnesota Vikings 2-8-1
The Minnesota Vikings appeared to be heading towards their third win of the season before letting Matt Flynn help rally the Green Bay Packers. On the bright side, at least a tie is better than a loss.
28. Washington Redskins 3-8 (27)
Is it time for the Washington Redskins to rest Robert Griffin III for the rest of the season so he can get healthy? With the way Monday night turned out, it doesn't seem like such a bad idea.
27. Buffalo Bills 4-7 (28)
After an impressive win in Week 11, it will be interesting to see how the Buffalo Bills perform in Week 13 as their playoff hopes are quickly slipping away.
26. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 3-8 (28)
It's a shame the Tampa Bay Buccaneers couldn't play at this level during the beginning of the season as they're coming off a very impressive win on the road against the Detroit Lions.
25. Cleveland Browns 4-7 (22)
A couple of weeks ago, the Cleveland Browns seemed to be in the playoff hunt, but they're coming off another disappointing loss--this time to the Pittsburgh Steelers at home.
24. New York Giants 4-7 (20)
This was a game the New York Giants could have won and while the ground game looked impressive again, Eli Manning (16 of 30 for 174 yards with two touchdowns) struggled once again in the passing game.
23. Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders appeared to be on their way to a big win on the road before a last-second touchdown by Kendall Wright ruined their day.
22. New York Jets 5-6 (15)
Questions are beginning to heat up about whether or not Geno Smith (three interceptions) has what it takes to make it as the starter for the New York Jets, but keep in mind he's still a rookie and the team has already exceeded expectations this year.
21. Green Bay Packers 5-5-1
For a team that needs every win possible from here on out, this was a game the Green Bay Packers simply needed to win and instead--had to settle for a tie.
20. Miami Dolphins 5-6 (16)
It was a tough matchup, but the Carolina Panthers were just too much for the Miami Dolphins to handle--putting them three games back in the AFC East.
19. Tennessee Titans 5-6 (23)
For a team fighting for their playoff hopes, the Tennessee Titans came up big with a last-second score against the Raiders--which was huge on the road.
18. Pittsburgh Steelers 5-6 (19)
All of a sudden, the Pittsburgh Steelers are back in the hunt for a playoff spot in the AFC--which is impressive considering their 0-4 start.
17. San Diego Chargers 5-6 (24)
For a team that has been inconsistent all season, the San Diego Chargers came up with a huge win on the road against the Kansas City Chiefs.
16. Baltimore Ravens 5-6 (18)
This was a game the Baltimore Ravens simply needed to win against the Jets and luckily--the defense came up big.
15. Chicago Bears 6-5 (11)
The Chicago Bears have been struggling at times over the last couple of weeks, but nobody expected them to lose this bad to the St. Louis Rams. If the defense doesn't turn things around, this team will be watching the playoffs from home in January.
14. St. Louis Rams 5-6 (17)
How impressive have the St. Louis Rams looked over the last two weeks? Keep an eye on this team in the final month of the regular season as they're not out of the playoff talk just yet.
13. Philadelphia Eagles 6-5 (12)
As impressive as the Philadelphia Eagles have looked over the last three weeks, they have tough tasks over the next two weeks--starting with the red-hot Arizona Cardinals.
12. Dallas Cowboys 6-5 (14)
Sunday's game against the Giants was one the Dallas Cowboys desperately needed to win and now--it appears they'll control their own fate in the division with a favorable December schedule.
11. Detroit Lions 6-5 (9)
For a team that has pulled off some impressive wins this season, it was quite the surprise to see the Detroit Lions lose at home to the Buccaneers instead of building their lead up in the NFC North.
10. Indianapolis Colts 7-4 (6)
A few weeks ago, the Indianapolis Colts seemed like the team to beat in the AFC and while the Arizona Cardinals have looked impressive at times over the last few weeks--nobody expected Andrew Luck and company to lose like they did on Sunday.
9. Cincinnati Bengals 7-4 (8)
They may have a two-game lead in the division, but every win will be important moving forward for the Cincinnati Bengals with the way the Steelers and Ravens have been playing as of lately.
8. Arizona Cardinals 7-4 (13)
All of a sudden, the Arizona Cardinals are one of the hottest teams in football as the defense has helped the team to four-straight wins. Look out--this team will put up a fight for a Wild Card spot in the NFC.
7. Kansas City Chiefs 9-2 (3)
The last team to lose in the regular season has all of a sudden lost two-straight games. Lucky for the Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos ended up with a loss at the last second on Sunday to keep things tight in the AFC West.
6. San Francisco 49ers 7-4 (10)
If you thought the San Francisco 49ers looked impressive this season, just wait and see how dangerous they are when Michael Crabtree is back at full strength.
5. New England Patriots 8-3 (7)
Talk about a thrilling finish as the New England Patriots not only managed to overcome a 24-point deficit against the Denver Broncos, but win in overtime thanks to a surprise fumble recovery on special teams.
4. Carolina Panthers 8-3 (5)
Make that seven-straight wins for the Carolina Panthers as the defense continues to look dominant alongside the impressive play of Cam Newton--who continues to grow as a leader for this team.
3. Denver Broncos 9-2 (2)
Losing to the Patriots in Foxboro the way they did has to hurt for the Denver Broncos--especially since the Chiefs lost earlier in the day.
2. New Orleans Saints 9-2 (4)
It was closer than expected, but the New Orleans Saints came through with a big win on the road in Atlanta to stay on top of the NFC South.
1. Seattle Seahawks 10-1 (1)
At this point, the Seattle Seahawks seem like the team to beat and control their own destiny in the NFC as they have the best record in the league. If they earn home-field advantage, it's tough to see this team losing in the playoffs.
