It’s time to reveal my prediction for Sunday’s game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Jets. I’ve included picks from experts in the media as well, and I encourage each reader to post their prediction for the game in the comments section.
USA Today: 6-of-7 picked Dolphins
ESPN: 8-of-13 picked Dolphins
CBS Sports: 6-of-8 picked Jets
Fox Sports: 3-of-4 picked Jets
The Jets are 4-1 at home in 2013 with stunning victories over the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints to their name. They have one of the league’s most talented defensive lines, which could be a matchup nightmare for a Dolphins’ offensive line that has struggled to run block and protect Ryan Tannehill all season. They are also well coached by Rex Ryan, who has seemingly gotten the most out of a flawed roster.
But I have a hard time trusting a team that employs Geno Smith at quarterback to beat anybody right now. If there’s a rookie wall, Smith has certainly hit it. During New York’s past three games combined, Smith has only completed 25-of-64 attempts and has five interceptions to only one touchdown pass.
The Jets are laboring to produce anything resembling a competent passing game at the moment, and I think that catches up their rushing attack on Sunday as the Dolphins stack the box in order to shut it down.
I see Miami’s defense dominating this football game from start to finish and forcing at least one turnover that proves to be the difference. I also see Tannehill making a few big-time throws and leading a couple of impressive drives.
The game remains competitive until late in the fourth quarter thanks to a few drive-killing sacks and tackles for loss produced by the Jets’ defense, but at the end of the day the Dolphins climb back to .500 and remain alive and well in the AFC playoff race.
THE PICK: Miami 20, New York 9
